IS ON FOR FILM STARSby KEITH BULL – The Burton Mail - 27th November 2006
A
DIRECTOR who can also turn his hand to producing and composing is calling on the
wealth of talent in Burton and South Derbyshire to feature in a film.
Robert Scott, wants to take a group of amateur actors and singers and eventually
film the musical 'Dolterris' as a motion picture.
The
talented 22-year-old, a special needs teaching assistant at Willington Primary
School, has written 18 songs that will appear in the production. He has likened
the music to Phantom of the Opera and Jesus Christ Superstar.
The
musical starts in Victorian England with Anthony and Jonathan Langsworth
attending the funeral of their beloved uncle. Anthony inherits his uncle’s
house in the will, and immediately after moving in, finds all is not as expected
with the property. This is confirmed when a ghostly apparition appears to him in
the mirror and beckons him to a whole new world called Dolterris.
Here,
the strong moral undercurrent of the story shines through, with love, hate and
romance set to question the audience’s definition of freedom.
Mr
Scott, who co-formed The Real Music Club in Willington, said: "There’ll
be scenes to make the audience laugh and cry, and very few will see the ending
coming. I began writing music when I was 15 and my parents always said I had to
do something with it. I find song writing is addictive, and I always come back
to it."
The
idea for the musical has been in the pipeline since August, and Mr Scott is
hoping to start filming by March. He is looking for actors aged between 16 and
24 to audition.
He
said: "I would encourage anyone who falls in the category to audition for a
role. There are lead roles available to smaller extra roles, and we need people
behind the scenes too."
Mr
Scott has experience in writing plays, producing five plays for the 10 to
14-year-old age category, and now wants to make the step up to a motion picture.
